For lounging around and chatting about Gunscape

I just read this post and am hopeful that eventually something will happen in time.

Rocket League developer Psyonix Studios has discussed becoming the first game to support cross-network multiplayer between the Xbox One and PlayStation 4, saying it has already figured out the technology necessary to bridge the two communities.

Speaking in an interview with GameSpot, Psyonix vice president Jeremy Dunham said the only thing left to work out was the politics of the arrangement.

"The only thing we have to do now is sort of find out where we stand politically with everyone, and then it's full steam ahead to finish the solution that we've already started," he said.

"Technologically everything works, we've got it figured out, just a little bit of time to get everything up and running. Right now, excitement is the best way to put it. We just want to get in there and make it happen. Elation is probably another word I would use. We're just excited."

Although Microsoft has extended an invitation to other platforms and networks to connect with Xbox Live, Sony has not yet committed to opening up the PlayStation Network to Xbox players.

Continuing, Dunham said that connecting the Xbox One's Rocket League community with those on the PlayStation 4 and PC is important to the overall health of the game.

"There's this weird psychological thing that happens with people if you let them know that their community is small, even though they're enjoying the game and playing it.

"There's this weird effect where sometimes it encourages them to stop playing if they think nobody else is going to play with them, which creates a snowball effect where other people stop playing because they don't think anyone's going to play."

In addition to creating a larger pool of players, a shared community would also allow Psyonix to make new features and updates ubiquitous across all platforms.

"The more people you have to throw in there, the less likely that psychological anomaly will kick in. Then you have the actual reality of it, which is, more players, for everyone, means more games, and more games means more participation and community feedback, which we can then put into the game as a whole and not have to worry about siloing off certain features of certain platforms because this version doesn't have it, or whatever the situation may be."

As mentioned previously, Sony has not yet confirmed whether PlayStation players will be able to connect with Xbox One players. Currently, Rocket League's cross-platform connectivity will only bring together Xbox One and PC communities. The PlayStation 4 version also supports cross-platform multiplayer with PC.

"We would be happy to have the conversation with any publishers or developers who are interested in cross platform play," Sony said when asked for a statement on cross-network support.

"PlayStation has been supporting cross-platform play between PC on several software titles starting with Final Fantasy XI on PS2 and PC back in 2002."

It is worrying that SONY have not yet commited, I thought it was a done deal with Rocket League on all 3 platforms but reading that last part it seems it is only XB1 v PC and PS4 v PC

So could that be an option for Gunscape ?
I can't see how that would work other than someone from PS4 or XB1 hosting and the PC gamers can see and join but if PC were hosting I can't work out how it would determine how only PS4 or only XB1 could join - are you guys any wiser to how it would work and can you ever see Gunscape getting Cross Platfrom Play on the PS4 side.
Would it work if someone hosts

(IMO!) Its all or nothing as far as cross platform play goes for PS4. Either Sony allow it & we can play with/VS PC & Xbox players OR they don't.

I can't see how xbox VS PC AND PS4 VS PC matchmaking could work. So 'all or nothing'

Either way I hope cross platform play (for all or just xbox/PC) doesn't mean bots in MP is something the devs see no point in adding now.

Until we get further clarification from both Sony and Microsoft we can't say anything concrete about this for now. Hopefully they both play nice!

Today they said Rocket League is Cross Play with PC and XB1, the game was already working between PS4 and PC so it will be interesting to see how this now works.

My gues is that the PC community when they do a search they can see games available on all platforms PC / PS4 / XB1 and can join any game they want.

As for consoles I am unsure how this will pan out, if someone from XB1 joins a PC started match then I can't see people on PS4 been able to join the match and vice versa because I hear XB1 / PS4 cross play hasn't happened yet. (I don't think it will happen either)

So basically it looks like the PC audience could become split now for consoles, PS4 could have joined any match before between that and PC but now there is a wedge in way of XB1 so is it the first console player to join a PC match then tags the match to only that console which can join possibly ?

I wondered if there are any plans with Gunscape because there is zero talk now on XB1 / PS4 playing in matches together.

Any news you guys can share ?

So we need to send Microsoft and Sony more documents, but like Rocket League we aren't sure about PS4 to XB1. Just seems a lot harder "business-wise" to get any agreement out of them. Nintendo have already said no.

We've done most of the work needed to get PS4-PC and XB1-PC crossplay working, just still hopeful to get PS4-XB1.. So haven't given up hope, but less certain than before.

Have you guys heard much from the Rocket League devs, not sure how friendly the business is with this kind of thing - I guess it's all very delicate as I am sure they would also like full Cross Play but there could be too much red tape in the way, Its supposed to be about the games - M$ & SONY need to lower the barriers.

MS & Sony don't have players at heart.

Its a sad world we live in. They would need to get something out of it - as a world changing suggestion - I would say they could potentially be the leader in providing a generic platform or a franchisee of that platform.

A lot of technology problems comes from non-generic objects. For example - you need a different cable to charge your iPhone than charge your controller - or maybe they are the same.

Why not simply promote generic cables for everything - we have HD cables that relate to multiple media - what Microsoft and Sony seem to do is act like separate warring factions where one company produces AK-47s and the other company promotes Ar-16s. So you can't use the same ammo for both.

Why don't they just compete on the same level providing the consumer with a level choice of buying Sony made machines or Microsoft made machines and let the rest be generic that anyone can make?

Are they just greedy and egotistically on some quest for a mountain of global power. Screw that. That's seriously wrong.

Just saying - in terms of Gunscape becoming a cross platform game - or for any game - whats the problem?

The silly thing is on Gunscape everyone is playing on the same servers anyway. PC, XB1 and PS4 all connect to the same server, just sit in different lobbies. We only need to flick a switch and everyone could play together....

If you were to flick that switch my guess is it would make a great headline and put you on the map in a big way but some law suit would no doubt bankrupt you even though you are letting people play a game who simply want to play it - what a crazy world we live in.

I am sure every single person who plays Gunscape would want others to be able to join not because they are on another platform or because their mates or on another platform but because they like the game and the more playing means a better experience and numbers keep the game alive.

Now knowing that all systems are on the same server seems crazy that someone somewhere would not allow this - I hope people iron things out and put their differences aside for the sake of video games which is the business they are all in.

Ben I will say one thing - DOOM SnapMap shows the names of the creator on other platforms or between XB1 / PS4 anyhow.

I have a buddy from when I was on XB360 called Alpha Sgt 14 and his map when I look at the details shows his XB1 Gamertag / Name so you would think they would allow that between XB1 / PS4 with Gunscape.
